Darlington Walking Trail

Donated by a builder when Darlington Commons was under contsruction, a one-acre walking/nature trail has been cleared between the end of Burke Road and Darlington Circle at Darlington Commons Court.  The Darlington Trail is bordered with split rails and covered with natural wood mulch.  It's great for walking the dog, pushing the stroller, or jogging.  There's also a picnic table for you to rest at or simply enjoy a snack or picnic lunch.

Mature trees, plants, and flowers along with a variety of wildlife and birds, including owls and pileated woodpeckers can be seen along the trail.

The Trail is open from Dawn until Dusk.

The Trail is maintained by volunteers and we are always looking for all nature loving, tree hugging, greenspace advocates to help us continue to develope the trail. In the future we would like to add informational signs identiftying the plantlife and trees, as well as birdwatching spots.

A special thanks to Annie Ladisic, a Cadette Girl Scout with Troop #371, lives on Peachtree Drive and chose Peachtree Park to work on her Silver Award. She enhanced the greenery in front of the Nature Trail on Burke Road by organizing a workday where they planted flowering bushes, perennial flowers, and mulch to give the path a more inviting look. With the help of her family, neighbors & friends, she cleaned up the presence of the neighborhood and focused on beautification, including trash pick up at all the neighborhood islands and foot bridge to Lenox.

Annie also formatted an educational flyer on Curbside Recycling, printed and distributed to all 550+ Peachtree Park residents.  She notes that if it cannot be recycled curbside, there are 4 containers located directly behind Whole Foods on West Paces Ferry Road (across the street from Henri's).  They will take most items there, including Styrofoam and plastics not recycled curbside.  You may also wish to locate a recycling center for electronics as well as other items at  www.earth911.com

Annie hoped to enhance our immediate environment by reducing waste through recycling, therefore reduction of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFS), improving air quality with her contribution of greenery on our neighborhood Nature Trail.   Please do your part to help save our Mother Earth.

You can get further information regarding Curbside Recycling and a recycling bin at the City website or by calling 404.330.6333.  You also have the option of providing a recycling container of your choice, but it must be clearly labeled "RECYCLING".  City issued "RECYCLING" stickers are available upon request by calling the Customer Service Center at (404) 330-6333, or via email request to: publicworks@atlantaga.gov.

Please make sure that your recycling container is durable, has a lid and is 45 - 50 gallon capacity since our collection crews have to lift it.  A 95 gallon cart fits the mechanical lifter on the City's Recycling truck.  If you would like to purchase a blue 95 gallon rolling recycling cart, please mail a check or money order for $70 to:

City of Atlanta
Department of Public Works
55 Trinity Avenue  SW, Suite 4800
Atlanta, GA 30303-3531

MAKE SURE THE DELIVERY ADDRESS IS ON THE CHECK OR MONEY ORDER.  The cart will be delivered to the address listed on the check/money order.
