Be Safe this Holiday!
by David Simpson, PPCA Security Chair
As previously reported, the neighborhood suffered three car break-ins and one attempted vehicle theft earlier this month.
With the holidays rapidly approaching, and the tendency to leave valuables in the car while shopping, be advised of the following report from the Atlanta Police Department, Zone 2:
From November 1 through November 7, Zone 2 experienced 53 car break-ins. In most cases the passenger side window was broken out. (This is usually the side not facing the street so the bad guys are not exposed) In only four of the cases nothing was taken, because there was nothing to take. The biggest target item is a GPS device, usually mounted on the windshield. The next favorite item is a laptop computer, followed by cellphones, i-pods, purses with check books and credit/debit cards, and HANDGUNS.
My favorite item taken was an owner's manual to a Volvo C70. (Most perps don't drive Volvos).
Please be smart this holiday season. Do not leave anything exposed in the car. A bag of dirty laundry could get your window broken out.
Have a safe holiday.
